Frederick Scott Supporto Office Chair, 1976

Supporto Office Chair by Frederick Scott.

Fred Scott was one of the most highly respected office furniture designers of the 20th century, combining trademark simplicity of design to strict ergonomic principles with contemporary aesthetics and durability.

This is a higher specification example of Scott’s award winning Supporto Task Chair in polished aluminium and black leather. The chair is on castors, with armrests, tilt, and height adjustment.

The chair was pioneering in its research and engineering, the aluminium shell is cast to the contours of the body, with particular attention to the lower back. As one of the first office chairs to consider detailed ergonomic studies of how people sit whilst working, it is considered an important development if office seating.

Supporto is held in museums including the V&A’s permanent furniture collection.
